The comprehensive Grimoire Quadrantis Telemetrum (GQT): "Magic Spellbook" of the Quadrant and the Telemeter
I am proud to present my recently (at the end of January 2026) published main focus of work over the last 10 years.
GQT started as the manual for the Wndsn Telemeter, a low tech range finder I developed in 2015. Over time and now in its 6th (and final) edition, the book became a manual for various instruments and the respective skills in land navigation, improvised surveying, as well as star gazing and astronomical position determination.
In its final form, GQT6 is both manual with countless worked examples and comprehensive instructions as well as textbook tracing the history of the instruments with a rich bibliography and endless cross-references. For those who are curious about obscure and ancient mathematics, a deep dive on the use of the most elegant of instruments awaits.
The book is thick, almost 600 pages, and I literally suggest to cut it up, if you dare, and use only the manual parts that you need.
GQT6 is written in old-school Vim and typeset in Latex, which allows beautiful typography and pretty formulas as well as tables. Started before the age of AI and finished manually without the use of AI.
English and German print editions as well as a print replica Kindle edition (Kindle/ebooks don’t like formulas, that’s why it has to be a print replica and not free-flowing dynamic text) are available at Amazon. So is a military bare bones field manual.
About Wndsn
Welcome to Wndsn -- We are a company that since 2015 designs and manufactures instruments that measure values in astronomical, geographical, and engineering contexts, calculate relevant results from the acquired data, and process the insights to make meaningful decisions. Wndsn Graphical Telemetry Computers are low tech, high utility distance & altitude nomographs from the Wndsn applied science lab.
Wndsn's Applied Science Lab, based in Berlin, develops and manufactures low-tech, high-utility tools and instruments with the objective of providing or enhancing "that, which can't be improvised" in low-probability, high-impact scenarios where it is most needed, yet usually unavailable or non-permissive. The resulting products are measurement, calculation, and exploration instruments informed by the motto "Ex Mensura, Scientia" -- knowledge from measurement.
